Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Young : : Small
Hi, I'm Kip!! Sometimes, my foster mommy calls me Kipper or THE Kipster! I am a Yorkie-Chi who was born on 10/10/2010 (so I'm only 1 year old) and weigh about 9 lbs...but my foster mom says my belly is a little round, so I'm working on getting down to a nice 8 lbs...the perfect size, if you ask me! I was surrendered to Ohio Fuzzy Pawz when I wasn't getting along with the young kids in my previous home. I lived with the family for about 11 months and during that time, I stopped trusting them and got nippy for reasons my foster mommy can only guess at...(small scared dog + small exuberant kids = unhappy family!) Either way, the family did the right thing in letting me go...I needed a different environment in order to blossom! Within just a few days, I've warmed right up to both my foster mom AND foster dad. They don't move fast and they don't make loud noises, so I have no reason to be scared. I even fell asleep in my foster mommy's lap while she was typing away on the computer! I am still a little nervous when meeting strangers (because of my trust issues!) so I may talk/bark at them. But I know with time (and comfort/guidance from my people), I'll get better at meeting new people, because I'll learn they won't hurt or scare me. UPDATE: I did SUPER at the Mingle with the Mutts event on Nov 20th and loved checking out the other dogs, people, and even kids! My foster mommy says that I might be ok living in a home with calmer children; we'd just have to meet to see if we all get along!! My personality is submissive with my foster parents, because they are consistent in their training. As long as you were consistent as well, I would be submissive to you too...I'm just eager to please! I went to the groomer to get trimmed up, and being as this was my first time ever, the groomer said I did great! I was a little leary of the equipment, but NEVER tried to bite the groomer. I do shed a little bit, but not enough to keep me from growing a shaggy look if given enough time without a groom. My foster dad has allergies, and I do NOT bother him a bit! UPDATE: I did GREAT when my foster dad gave me a bath; I stood very still. I was much more nervous about the blow dryer, but it's something I think I could get used after a few more times! Before coming to my foster home, I had never been around other dogs...my foster mom called me "unsocialized". But within just a few hours of meeting the other dogs in my home who are about my size, I am ready to play, play, PLAY! I also like to play tug of war with my foster dad, but I'm actually pretty gentle when I mouth the toys. I do a little play-growl when I'm really getting into it, which could possibly scare little kids, but I'm really just playing like a normal dog! In my previous home, I did not get along with kitties, so I'd really just like a doggie sibling please. I've been doing great with pottytraining; I just don't feel the need to be one of those boys who mark everywhere! I am also pretty good at heading for the potty pads inside when I can't get outside to take care of some #2 "business". I am so affectionate and will give you little lick-kisses if you'll let me! And if you're lying down to take a nap, I want to be curled up right beside you every time. My foster mommy always says she likes how sweet and cuddly I can be with her, yet so playful with other dogs. When my foster mom says "Bedtime!", I know it's time to head into my crate with all my soft blankets. I do just fine curled up in there with my bedtime treat. But there have been a few times when she let me sleep on the bed with her and I LOVE it even more! I would love a furever home with another little fur-buddy so I can play and continue to be social! This would make me a "well-balanced" pup! And if you would like to see even MORE pictures of me, please check out my webpage on www.OhioFuzzyPawz.com!! Kip is being fostered in Dayton, Ohio, and his adoption donation is $300. If you have any questions about little Kip, please email his foster mom at Lauren.Churchey@gmail.com! If you are viewing this biography on a website other than the Ohio Fuzzy Pawz website like Petfinder, Adopt-a-Pet, or another search engine (the OFP website is www.ohiofuzzypawz.com), not all information transfers to partner websites in some instances. If you go to the
individual webpage of our dogs
, you will be able to get more information each dog.
Visual breed identification in dogs can be unreliable so, in many cases, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
The adoption process has several steps involved.
Please review prior to submitting an application.
Our adoption process is detailed here:
http://www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/info/adoption
Our volunteers work very diligently to process each application and we try to ensure that we are making the best match possible for each dog. We do not schedule meetings with dogs until an application has been approved. It can take up to a few weeks to process an application or as little time as a few days, from the time you submit an application, please be prepared to adopt as we cannot hold dogs.
Some dogs may have special requirements (for example, medications, a fence) -- if you apply for a dog, please be sure to read over the biography completely to see if there are any special needs and if you're home would be suitable. If we indicate on the dog's biography that a fence is required, this means your home must have a physical fence. Other dogs may require a "strong vet reference" which indicates that we are looking for a home that has a documented history of veterinary care with previous pets.
The first step in our process is to submit an online adoption application at www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/forms. The application MUST include the personal references and veterinary, grooming, and landlord references (if applicable) and their respective contact information. If you do not include the references and the contact information, your application will be delayed as it CANNOT be processed. Once the references have been successfully completed, a home visit is then scheduled when a rescue representative can meet all members of the family or residents of the home.
No application is approved prior to the home visit being done.
At that point, the Directors will discuss any and all applications on a foster dog and make a selection--in many cases, there are multiple applications for each dog, so please be understanding that our only priority is the successful placement of each of our foster dogs.
We do adopt out of state to outstanding applicants, however, our process requires a home visit, so out of state adoptions can take longer.
We do not ship our dogs, adopters should be prepared to pick up the dog in Central Ohio.
